Dónde? Where?

-- Nestled in the foothills of what I call the “Magical Mountains of New Mexico”, where the wild ones roam and the ravens, hawks and eagles take wing. Undeniably some deep magic here, rising from the varied landscape, reaching all the way to the sky!

The Mogollon Mountain Range makes up much of the Gila Wilderness (inside of the vast Gila National Forest) stretching for about 30 miles forming part of the divide between the San Francisco and Gila Rivers. The highest point is Whitewater Baldy, 10,895 ft (3,321 m) which is also the highest point in southwestern New Mexico. The range also contains five other 10,000+ foot peaks, most notably Mogollon Baldy (10,778 ft, 3,285 m) which is what I see when I look out my kitchen window. The Sierra Aguilada, a lower altitude, smaller range, borders to the west. I am also enveloped by the Blue Range Wilderness also within the vast Gila National Forest.

My solar-powered casa is tucked between the ranges, overlooking the San Francisco River Valley, where the sunsets are beyond description! Early inhabitants include the Mogollon/Mimbres Culture from 300 BCE to 1300 CE. The great Chiricahua-Mescalero Apache chief Geronimo, aka Goyaałé, is said to have been born in The Gila around 1829. Their spirits are still felt in these hills, adding to the overall energy of place.

New morning. As the raven flies.. a familiar sight over the Mogollons!
